Year 7 student Logan (7AHO) has made a huge contribution to Sport Relief by raising £160 through completing his own Sport Relief Challenge!
Logan has spinal muscular atrophy, which limits his ability to move his arms and legs independently and causes severe muscle tiredness. Logan also relies on the use of an electric wheelchair. Unable to take part in the Year 7 Sport Relief Mile, Logan took it upon himself to organise and take part in his own Sport Relief Challenge.
Logan attends swimming sessions every Friday afternoon with members of his previous school, Bransty Primary School. Logan usually uses these swimming sessions as a chance to gently move and relax his muscles through using floats within the water. However, in the last two weeks in March Logan used these sessions to complete his own Swimming Challenge for Sport Relief, swimming 16 widths of the pool over two weeks, which is the furthest that Logan has ever managed to swim non-stop and is a fantastic achievement.
Logan received sponsorship from his friends and family for the completion of this challenge – raising £160, making him the highest individual Sport Relief Fundraiser at Workington Academy.
In this week’s Year 7 Assembly, in which the theme was ‘Resilience’, Logan addressed the rest of the Year 7 student body and spoke of his achievement of completing his own Sport Relief Challenge, detailing how difficult the challenge was, why he was so determined to complete this and what this achievement has meant to him.
At the end of the assembly. Logan left his Year 7 peers with his own resilience message,
“There are people out there that find things harder than you – so make sure that you push yourselves to be the best that you can be at everything that you do!”
Miss N Tweddle, Director of Learning – Year 7, commended Logan on his fantastic achievement and continual display of resilience and selfless attitude towards helping others, naming Logan an ‘inspiration to others’.
Logan was presented with the Year 7 Star of the Week Certificate and some personalised gifts as a reward of his achievement.
Well Done Logan!
