Year 9 student Daniel Bell is celebrating success in the prestigious International Maths Olympiad Grey Kangaroo competition. Daniel was one of 5500 able students in Years 9-11 from across the country who qualified to sit the paper through exceptional performances in the United Kingdom Maths Trust’s Intermediate challenge.
Daniel was awarded the illustrious Grey Kangaroo Merit award which is only given to around 400 Year 9 students nationally. This year the score required to gain the Merit was 89 out of 135. Daniel smashed this grade boundary by scoring 112, proving himself as one of the top mathematicians for his age in the United Kingdom.
He said “I love maths and I’ve always enjoyed the competitions because of their problem solving element. I thought I had done quite well in the Kangaroo competition but was quite surprised to have gained a ‘Merit’ Certificate.”
Jack Ivison in Year 9, Matthew Glover in Year 9 and Denis Beytekin in Year 11 received qualification certificates after exceptional performances in the qualifying round.
