On Friday 8 July, we welcomed Year 6 students who will be joining us as our new Year 7 students in September.
After a welcome assembly in the main hall with Miss Tweddle, Director of Learning – Year 7 and Mr Logan, Headteacher, the Year 6 students dispersed into their new form groups to complete a day full of team building activities and challenges, focusing on developing Workington Academy’s core values of respect, responsibility and resilience.
Students joining us from a range of feeder primary schools quickly blended and combined to become members of their new Workington Academy form groups.
Students began the day by completing a series of ice-breaker activities and ‘getting to know each other’ games, before completing a series of physical, mental and problem solving team challenges and quizzes, as well as taking part in their first inter-form sports tournament.
Students felt content by having any concerns or queries regarding ‘moving up to secondary school’ answered and diminished by their tutor and our students, as well as enjoying a tour of the academy and view of our new build, (due to open in February 2017), led by a group of Year 7 ambassadors.
The day concluded with a Rewards Assembly, with certificates given out to the students in each form group who had shown the highest levels of respect, responsibility, resilience and teamwork throughout the day.
Mr Bedford, Deputy Headteacher, closed the day and the assembly by wishing our now ‘new Year 7 students’, a fantastic summer holiday.
Miss Tweddle, Miss Jones and the rest of the Year 7 Tutor team are very much looking forward to welcoming our new Year 7 students to Workington Academy on 5 September 2016.
