This last half term has seen a new rewards initiative launched at Workington Academy, which tied in with the Euro 2016 Football Championships. ‘Workington Academy Euro 2016 Goals Reward Scheme’ was launched on 10 June, with the students scoring ‘goals’ in and out of lessons for completing outstanding pieces of work, class contributions, embracing the academy values of respect, responsibility and resilience and attending extra-curricular sessions. The initiative was launched with all students in Years 7-10 and students have worked hard throughout the Euro 2016 Tournament – 10 June – 10 July 2016 scoring as many goals as they could, competing for themselves, their form group and for their house. The initiative was introduced by Miss N Tweddle, Director of Learning – Year 7. Miss Tweddle stated, “The students and staff have responded very positively to the Goals Rewards scheme and all have embraced it. The students have felt the benefit of having their efforts rewarded instantly with the receiving of a ‘goal scored slip’ and the initiative has created a friendly sense of competition between students and form groups in each year group”.
The Cumberland FA donated some football themed prizes for the winners of the ‘Goals’ Rewards Scheme, which were presented in Assemblies last week to the ‘Top Goal Scorers’.
