Local Paralympian, Simon Lawson, visited Workington Academy today. Simon spoke to students about his life including his early career as a motocross rider, his injury and his recent success in Rio. The talks were followed by question and answer sessions. Simon said, ‘It was a pleasure speaking to students and I hope they can all take something away after hearing my story.’
Students were inspired by his story of resilience, one of the values of the academy. JJ Glaister, Year 8 , said ‘It was an inspirational story and something for me to look up to.’ Lewis Dawson-Bragg, also in Year 8, said ‘His story showed a lot of resilience. I want to be as resilient as Simon when I am older.’ Mrs Fitzsimons, Curriculum Leader of Personal Development, who organised the event, added ‘We are really grateful to Simon for taking time out of his busy schedule to speak to students today. His story is very inspiring and we wish him well in the future.
