
Following on from the A level successes from last week, students at Workington Academy have again been celebrating today after the publication of their GCSE results.
Over 60% of students achieved a C or better in maths and almost 70% of students achieved a C or better in English Language.
Mrs O’Hagan, Director of English said ‘this is a fantastic day for the students at the academy. I was delighted with the A level results last week and these results go to show we are making great progress. The students and staff have worked incredibly hard this year and I am so proud of what they have achieved’.
There were other notable successes, over 90% of students achieved a C or better in the separate sciences: Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Lorrayne Hughes, Executive Headteacher William Howard Trust said ‘The students have again shown that success follows hard work. I am again very happy to see the students from Workington Academy doing well and their efforts over the last year paying off. We look forward to welcoming many of the students back into the Sixth Form where I am sure they will go on to achieve further successes’.
Students who studied Art and Child Development also did better than expected. There were also some fantastic results for the linguists. Over 60% of students achieved a C or better in French and a fabulous 71% of students achieve a C or better in German, many at the higher grades.
Jonathan Logan, Headteacher at Workington Academy said ‘this is a great day for Workington Academy, again our students have done us proud. We have some strong foundations to build on and with the move into the new academy in February, I am sure we will go from strength to strength’. We have set the bar high this year but I am determined to continue to push for improvements and make Workington Academy outstanding’.
