On Thursday, 22 September we celebrated the successes and achievements of last year’s Year 10, of which there were many. We acknowledged triumphs from within the Classroom such as outstanding contribution to learning, outstanding effort and outstanding home learning. We also acknowledged achievements from other important areas of academy life, these included, leadership, voluntary work, innovation and creativity and Vision and enterprise.
Attendance, which is highly regarded at Workington Academy with its strong affiliation with attainment, was widely celebrated with many students receiving Bronze, Silver and Gold Certificates.
Special Awards were presented by the Assistant Chief Constable Mr Darren Martland. In June this year, Cumbria Police and Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service organised an event for local Primary schools called “The Junior Citizen Scheme”. This included workshops on Personal Safety, Fear of Crime, Drugs and Alcohol, First Aid and Youth disorder through practical scenarios, videos and workshops. The students from Workington Academy had been invited to act as mentors for this event, which involved them escorting their group of year 6 students around the various sessions. This was a really valuable experience and the students really enjoyed working as part of the team.
Year 10 Outstanding Boy and Girl was awarded to Jack Martin and Mia Edgar because of their all-round excellence in Academy life; sport, excellent effort across all subjects, Good Citizenship and attendance.
Congratulations to all!
