On Thursday 1st December, Workington Academy will be launching our Advent Appeal. We are looking for food donations* to go to The North Lakes Foodbank at the end of term.
The North Lakes Foodbank have a simple ethos, which is one that all four houses at the academy wish to support over the festive period:
“It is all about the “community working together”. By feeding people in crisis we demonstrate the Christian values of compassion, love and hope.”
The North Lakes Foodbank helps individuals and families in crisis, through the provision of emergency food supplies. They refer people in need, using a food voucher, to the Foodbank Centre where people receive food and are signposted to other agencies who may be able to help them out of their crisis. Each person receives enough nutritionally balanced food for three days.
The charity relies on donated food from individuals and organisations such as schools, local businesses and supermarkets. These donations are especially important during the busy Christmas season, when many people find their daily struggles more difficult than usual.
Here at Workington Academy, we are going to be gratefully collecting donations from students and staff to assist The North Lakes Foodbank. Our Advent Appeal will run from Thursday 1st December until Friday 16th December. All students can bring donations to place in their house containers in the Library, or they can hand them to their Head of House. Please see the attached list for items that would be accepted by the Foodbank.
Thank you in advance for supporting us with this appeal.
