Dear Parents and Carers
Moving to the new Workington Academy building
We are delighted to inform you that our new building will be ready to welcome students on Thursday 2 March 2017. Staff will undertake safety and other training in the days before students arrive, as well as ensuring classrooms are ready for teaching and learning.
It is a huge task packing up an entire school, moving to a new building, unpacking and then getting everything ready to welcome students. We have done our best to minimise disruption to students’ learning, particularly those who are taking examinations this year. Closure days are necessary for practical and safety reasons and we apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.
On their first day in the new building, students will be given a tour of the building and take part in fire safety and other induction procedures. In order to manage this safely and effectively, different year groups will arrive to the new building at different times on the first day.
The table shows the start time for each year group.
The staggered start times will enable staff to take students through their fire safety procedures, tour the new building and explain how the new catering and other systems will work.
If you have any questions about moving to the new building and the closure days, please contact your child’s Director of Learning in the first instance.
We are all very excited about moving to a brand new, state-of-the-art building and are looking forward to welcoming our students to their new school. Thank you for your continued support.
Yours sincerely
Colette Macklin
Interim Headteacher
