Dear Parent/Carer,
As we reach the end of the Spring term let me take this opportunity to thank you for all of your support with our Year 11 students. I appreciate the pressure that our young people are under at this time and how important it is to them to have a network of support.
As the exam period is rapidly approaching, the school are providing every opportunity to utilise the time that we have left before the examinations begin in May. There are a range of revision sessions running for a variety of subjects during the Easter break:
Transport will be available for students living in the Salterbeck, Harrington and Distington areas. The school minibus will collect students from 8.45 and bring them to school. Students will need to make their own way home after their relevant revision sessions.
We understand that Year 11 students do need a break from the pressure of study but I must emphasise the importance of using this time over Easter effectively to consolidate learning and to prepare for the impending GCSEs. Therefore work will be sent home and some revision materials will be posted on Firefly to be completed during the Easter break. We appreciate your help in ensuring this work is completed appropriately. Students should devise a study plan to help structure their revision time.
As I know you will be aware, attendance in these few remaining weeks is absolutely vital and coming to school smartly turned out and equipped for lessons is all part of the preparation for higher education and working life. To further enhance the standards of uniform at the academy, from September, only black leather shoes (not trainer style or Converse) will be permitted and school trousers will be sold from the school central supplier. Further details about uniform will be provided after Easter.
This has been a challenging year, in terms of moving buildings and adjusting to our new facilities. The students of Year 11 have responded with remarkable resilience and they have proved themselves to be excellent ambassadors for the academy when assisting staff and younger students. It is a pleasure to be able to comment on the leadership skills and responsibility for learning that so many of our young people demonstrate when writing their references.
I do appreciate that Year 11 can be a very stressful time for our young people (and those who have to live with them!) If you have any concerns or questions about how best to help your child through the impending exam season then please do not hesitate to contact the Year 11 office.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs J Kearton
Director of Learning Year 11
