Consultation on the length of the school day

Dear Parents and Carers,

Consultation on the length of the school day at Workington Academy

I would like your views on our proposal to change the finish time of the school day from September 2017. The proposal is to remove moving time between lessons and to add 5 mins to the length of break and lunch. There is no change to the length or number of lessons. The current and proposed times are on the reverse of this letter.

The changes will result in a 3.00pm finish instead of the current 3.15pm. This will enable some of our students to pick up their siblings from local primary schools in good time and the 75 mins of time gained each week will be used for staff training and to support school improvement plans. School buses times will be adjusted accordingly.

Consultation opens today and closes on Tuesday 11^th July 2017. Responses will be considered throughout the consultation period and a final decision will be communicated to staff, students and parents/carers on Thursday 13^th July 2017. If the proposals are agreed, it will allow a period of almost 8 weeks before the new arrangements come into operation.
