Workington Academy students are celebrating success after receiving their GCSE results today. Results were available to be collected from 8.30am but we had some students who just couldn’t wait and arrived very early indeed! We were visited by a reporter and photographer from the Times & Star newspaper this morning and hope to see some lovely pictures of very happy students in today’s paper.
We are very pleased that so many students have done so well, particularly in the new English and Maths GCSEs. There has been a considerable increase in the amount of work that students are required to do for these new qualifications and the exams are now much more difficult. Students and staff have risen to the challenge and we are delighted that so many students have achieved such good grades.
Many other subjects are also celebrating excellent results and we look forward to welcoming students back to our 6th form in September. They will be joined by students from other local schools who will transfer to us for Year 12.
We congratulate all our students on their achievements and wish them every success for the future – at college, in training or in work. We also thank their families for all their support and our staff for their dedication and hard work.
