You may be aware that Cumbria Education Trust (CET) were named the preferred sponsor of The Whitehaven Academy (TWA) in January 2018. Despite a decision not yet being made by the Department for Education on this, CET and its family of schools have been working to support The Whitehaven Academy through their transition phase from one sponsor to another.
As part of the ongoing support, Workington Academy has offered the opportunity for The Whitehaven Academy students to join Workington Academy’s Sixth Form from September. Students will remain on roll at The Whitehaven Academy but would study for Level 3 / A-Level qualifications at Workington Academy. The time they spend at Workington Academy will be determined by the number of courses they choose to study.
Workington Academy currently accepts a large number of external students from local schools into their sixth form so is confident that it can provide a smooth transition for any students from The Whitehaven Academy who choose to study at Workington Academy.
Workington Academy is part of the Western Heads Group, who work collaboratively to support each other when it is needed. I am grateful that Workington Academy can provide this support to the students of Whitehaven at this point in their education.
