On Friday 28 September, Workington Academy students and staff participated in our biggest Macmillan Coffee Morning yet. The 4th annual event was a huge success, raising an enormous £640.
The House teams were inundated with cakes, thanks to everyone’s generosity. Mrs Headley donated a huge sweet-covered cake, which joined some other show-stoppers as raffle prizes. Bessemer House Captain, Ebony Ritchie, baked and donated a beautiful Lemon Sherbet cake, which celebrated her House Team colours.
A group of Year 7 students said: “we love cake sales because of all of the sweet goodies, and we brought lots of money to support Macmillan”. Miss McTaggart’s form, 11W, even had a bake-off in honour of the sale!
Students flocked to the Hall during break and lunch-times to enjoy the delights on offer. They participated in the raffle to donate to Macmillan; the majority of students were hoping to win the cake covered head-to-toe in chocolate. Well done to the lucky winners: Harry (Year 7), Oscar (Year 8), Harvey (Year 8) and Evie (Year 9).
Kieran Wallace, Year 11, said: “It was a great success for a great cause”.
The House Teams would like to take this opportunity to that students, staff and parents/carers for their support with such a phenomenal event.
Thanks to Ebony Ritchie, House Captain for Bessemer and Year 11 Student, for her help with the article.
