The clouds rolled in and the sound of thunder ripped through the air… this could have been the setting for a classic piece of Gothic Literature, but instead it was the tone and atmosphere of Workington Academy’s Glorious Gothic Enrichment Day.
330 Year 6 pupils gathered at the academy today for our annual English Enrichment Day. They enjoyed working with peers from their own Primary School, as well as those from other local schools. Pupils completed four gruesome and ghastly Gothic activities, from using inference skills with The Woman in Black, to exploring poetry with Edgar Allan Poe. We were wowed by villains and their nasty nature, and transported into a Gothic story in Drama. Some students even got to have a go at being Victor Frankenstein by assembling their own creature.
It was smiles all around during the sessions, and our visitors worked extremely hard whilst having lots of fun. We’d like to thank all pupils and staff from our visiting Primary Schools for engaging fully and enthusiastically with the day. We hope to see you all again soon.
