Mr Bird has been catching up with our recent Headteacher Learner of the Week winners.
Our winners from October 18th are Jessica Reay and Amy Barnes, both from year 7. Jessica was nominated for her efforts in maths where she is making accelerated progress, particularly on algebra where she recently scored full marks on her assessment. She also enjoys Arts and attends Drama Club. Amy was nominated for her excellence in English where her contribution and home learning are exceptional. She recently made a detailed video for her research project which typified her enthusiasm. Amy is an active member of the Home-Learning Club and Drama clubs. Both winners have 100% attendance.
Our winners from November 2nd are Jaxon Graham from year 8, and Harsirat Kaur from year 12. Jaxon was nominated for his excellence in Science where he completes challenge work in every lesson. He recently did some excellent work on electricity and magnetism and asks some very probing questions which demonstrate understanding beyond his years. Jaxon has represented the school at football and attends Home-Learning club. He has 100% attendance. Harsirat is nominated for her work at the ‘Today’s Youth, Tomorrow’s Future’ conference, led by the Most Reverend and Right Honourable Dr. John Sentamu, Archbishop of York. As part of this Harsirat presented a particularly moving speech on mental wellbeing for young people to a large audience. Harsirat is studying English Literature, History and RE A-Levels. She has impressed all of her teachers with her fantastic work ethic since she joined the academy this September.
Congratulations to all of our winners who receive a gold star pin badge which they can wear for the rest of their time at the academy, along with a certificate and a photo opportunity with Mr Bird. In addition to the winners, all students who are nominated receive commendation letters.
