Mr Bird has been catching up with our latest winners of the prestigious Headteacher Learner of the Week Award.
Our winners from December 6th are Luke Irving and Alfie Rosser, both from year 8. Luke is nominated for excellence in PE where he shows exceptional effort at all times. He has been regularly attending lunchtime Gymnastics club. His hard work paid off when he recently won a regional gymnastics event in the Floor and Vault category. His favourite other subject is Art. Alfie is nominated in English where he is described as a “stand-out superstar for consistently good work in class and exceptional effort on home learning”. Alfie’s favourite other subjects are maths and Science where he is also making great progress. He also attends basketball club.
Our winners from December 13th are Bailey McCourt from year 7 and Kian Stewart from year 8. Bailey has settled in really well at the academy since joining us from Beckstone in September. He recently won the Design-a-Christmas-Card competition and his design has been used as the official Workington Academy card for 2019. He is well thought of by all of his teachers for his positive attitude and determination to be the best he can be. His favourite subjects are Art, PE and maths. He has represented the school at football, rugby and cross-country. Kian was nominated for his outstanding effort in French. The Year 8 French group were given a hefty revision workbook to use at home in preparation for an end of unit assessment after Christmas. Kian took the booklet away and completed all the exercises within a week, showing great responsibility for his learning. He also enjoys maths and science and has represented his form in the inter-form football competition.
Our winners from December 20th are Megan Robinson from year 7 and Katie Holmes from year 10. Megan has been working brilliantly across a range of 5 subjects – English, Maths, History, Geography and French. After Christmas she is going to be moving up a set in some of these subjects – she has already had some taster lessons this week. These have gone very well for her so she is sure to be a great addition to the new classes. Her favourite lessons are Art and English and she also enjoys playing football. Katie is nominated for her efforts in German where she is described a “gifted linguist”. She goes the extra mile by completing additional tasks as she strives for a top grade. She also enjoys RE and is looking forward to studying both of these subjects at the West Coast Sixth Form in year 12.
Congratulations to all of our winners who receive a photo opportunity with Mr Bird, a certificate and a gold star pin badge which they can wear on their blazers for the rest of their time at the Academy.
