Mr Bird has been catching up with this term’s Headteacher Learner of the Week award winners. All of January’s winners have received a high number of achievement points across a range of subjects, as well as showing the academy’s three core values of Respect, Resilience and Responsibility.
Year 7 winner Fenton McNicholas was nominated in his favourite subject, Maths. He also enjoys Art and works hard in all of his lessons. He likes cycling and is completing a cycle awareness course in PE. Another winner from year 7 is Catlin Iceton. She particularly enjoys Technology and Art. She attends homework club and plays rugby for the school.
Keira Grimley from year 8 is another award winner. Her favourite subject is Maths, where she has recently produced some superb work on algebra. She is also a member of the Radio Club and gave up her time to help at a recent Progress Evening. Lily James is our second award winner from year 8. Her favourite subjects are Art and English. She is also a member of the Radio Club and attends Homework Club after school to keep up to date with her studies.
Jack Gibbon is one of our year 9 winners. He has been working on percentages in his favourite subject Maths, where he has been moved up a set as a result of his hard work. He enjoys attending Chess Club at lunchtime. Cain Milburn is another year 9 winner. He is excelling in English where he recently wrote an outstanding piece of persuasive writing on the topic of poverty. He also enjoys Badminton and attends the academy’s extra-curricular club.
Another winner who enjoys Maths is year 10 student Jessica Holliday. She has recently achieved very well on her Bearing assessment. Jessica also plays netball and rugby for the school. Our final winner is year 10 student Bekkie Rothery. Bekkie is taking part in our paired reading scheme where she works with a year 7 student to encourage improved literacy skills. Her favourite subjects are English, History and German – she is hoping to study all three of these at the academy’s sixth form when she reaches year 12.
