We are sad to announce the passing of a long-serving member of staff, Mr White, who passed away after a short illness earlier this week.
He joined Southfield school as a Chemistry teacher in 2004 and was part of the science teaching staff when Southfield and Stainburn schools joined together to become Workington Academy in 2015.
In 2017 Mr White chose to take a break from teaching but stayed in the Science Department and took on the role of Science Technician. In recent years Mr White has always been on hand to make sure that the Science experiments were prepared for students in school, and was always the friendly face at the Science prep room door whenever students needed something during their Science lessons. Mr White was also a enthusiastic volunteer when it came to assisting with extra-curricular activities and trips.
Even though he stepped back from being a full-time teacher, the Academy often used Mr White’s knowledge of Science to help with some smaller groups of students. He would come into lessons and help out during tricky experiments and taught some of the current Sixth Form Applied Science groups for their Chemistry module exams.
Mr White will be sadly missed by our whole Academy community, and our thoughts are with his family at this time.
