Dear Parent/Carer
Please be advised that we have had a suspected case of Covid-19 in year 10. A member of the student’s family bubble tested positive over the weekend, and subsequent to that the student has developed symptoms. The student in question has not been in school with symptoms, but as a precaution we have asked that all close contacts of the child from Thursday and Friday last week remain at home and start a period of self-isolation for 14 days. We wish the family well in their recovery.
We have not yet received a positive test result for this student, but have followed advice from the relevant officials to manage the risk of further transmission. If a negative test result for this student is received, we will ask all of their close contacts to return to school.
This case is not believed to be linked to any previous case at the Academy, as it appears to be instead linked to an external source.
Following notification of the student developing symptoms we have moved swiftly to act upon this information following advice from the relevant authorities. Please be assured that we have thoroughly planned for this eventuality, and will do everything possible to ensure that further transmission of the virus does not take place.
If you have not been contacted by us, or track and trace directly, that means that your child did not come into close contact with this student, and therefore can attend school as normal.
I have written to you immediately, as I am aware that parents will be anxious about this development. This situation has happened in a number of schools across Cumbria, and as in other schools, we will take further direction from Public Health England. We will keep you updated as and when we receive further information.
Mr D Bird
Headteacher
