Dear Parents/Carer,
I hope you are well.
The Government yesterday afternoon updated its guidance regarding the start of term in January and has advised that secondary schools in England should not fully re-open to all students and staff following the Christmas holidays until Monday 11 January.
However, the school will still be open from Monday 4 January, as scheduled, for students classed as vulnerable, for children of critical workers, and for students in Year 11, 12 and 13.
All other students will receive their learning remotely for the first week of term from Monday 4 January to Friday 8 January and they will be expected to engage fully with this. Thank you for your support in this.
Students working at home will access all work via Firefly and Teams. Work will be set for all lessons for this week and students should complete this as if they were following their usual timetable. All student timetables are available to view via the Firefly Parent App. Students should log in to meet with their tutors every morning at
8.40am when a register will be taken.
Students in years 7-10 whose parents are critical workers who require school provision during the first week of term should email the school by Wednesday 23 December using the following email address: office@workingtonacademy.org
We will be carrying out a programme of Covid testing for all staff and students, beginning during the first week back. Students in years 7-10 may be invited in on a particular day and time for testing and will then return home immediately afterwards. More detail on this will follow when we have finalised our arrangements.
We appreciate that this change is short notice and may inconvenience you but it is essential that we closely follow all Government guidance on COVID-19 in order to safeguard our students, staff and wider school community.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch. In the meantime, we look forward to seeing your child, either in school if they are in examination years from Monday 4 January and all other year groups back in school from Monday 11 January.
Yours faithfully
Mr D Bird
Headteacher
