On Thursday, three groups of girls from Year 9 were lucky enough to attend some webinar events entitled ‘Women in Industry’. These events were led by three leading women in managerial roles at the National Nuclear Laboratory, and were held in support of the GCSE Options Process, which has begun here at Workington Academy.
Our students were given access to advice, guidance and information about the career pathways and experiences of Lindsay Edmiston, Lindsay Hawkins and Myrian Wood – all who have successful careers in the Nuclear Industry. The presentations were absolutely invaluable and gave us an insight into the challenges faced by women in the workplace, and the necessity to remain flexible and focused on our future goals and achievements.
We would like to express our gratitude to the three leading ladies, who have undoubtedly inspired some of our girls this morning to reach their goals and strive to be the best that they can be. We would also like to thank David Bailiff (one of our parents) who helped to organise this wonderful event. We are very much looking forward to working with them again in the future.
