Dear Parents/Carer
Thank you for your support through what has been a challenging fortnight, with Covid cases reappearing in school after what felt like a very long time with very few cases. You may have seen in the news that this is not unique to Workington Academy, as many schools nationally and most secondary schools locally have seen cases within their student population.
We have seen further cases this week, mostly limited to year 8 students who were already isolating. We have also had our first member of teaching staff test positive during school time. Thankfully this member of staff has not been a close contact with students, so we do not need any more students to isolate because of this case. To our knowledge, all of the students or staff who have tested positive have been either asymptomatic or had mild symptoms. We wish them all the best with their recovery.
I was delighted with the uptake for the PCR tests completed on Wednesday this week, which has been excellent. We still await a very small number of results, but I am delighted to report that out of the many hundreds of results we have had back, all have been negative.
I would ask families to continue to support us by doing the LFD tests every Sunday and Wednesday evening. This helps us to prevent the spread of Covid and ultimately will mean more students are in school, more of the time.
I wish you all well, and England the best of luck in the football!
Kind regards
Mr D Bird
