Workington Academy’s very own Leading Change project team were delighted today to receive a donation of 1000 reusable water bottles from United Utilities. The team have been working hard over the last 8 weeks to drive a change in culture within the school after discovering some shocking statistic on the amount of plastic bottles used and disposed every day. Our pupils at Workington Academy make up the action group that meets weekly with volunteer facilitator Cath Howard, who is the Social Impact Manager for BEP (Box Encapsulation Plant) a joint venture between Balfour Beatty and Jacobs at Sellafield. They have also been supported by the Centre for Leadership team and Director of Learning, Mrs Thompson.
The bottles will have a huge impact on our school community as it not only drastically reduces the amount of plastic being thrown away, but could potentially save each student £20 a month as they will now be able to fill their bottles free of charge at the new water fountains.
The group would like to say a huge thank you to United Utilities for their generosity and support.
