Last week saw our Workington Academy Innovate Competition Final take place, which was battled out between six teams of Year 7, 8 and 9 students who put their inventiveness, creativity and teamwork to the test.
This is all part of the Cumbria Education Trust ‘Innovate Challenge’, whereby students in Key Stage 1, 2 and 3 have been challenged to show outstanding teamwork to create a world changing idea – focused around helping the environment. Their task being to Generate, Design, Advertise and Present their world changing idea to a panel of judges.
As part of our Workington Academy Innovate Final – our students pitched their ideas to our very own ‘Dragons;’– Mr Bird, Mr Bedford and Mrs O’Hagan.
The standard of the competition was incredibly high, with all teams generating and presenting excellent ideas and products with great confidence and clarity, all of which could certainly be moved forward to help and support the environment.
Based on the Competition Criteria – the teams were judged on the following;
- Concept – what makes their project innovative, interesting or different from similar projects?
- Purpose – how well will the product solve the problem identified?
- Creativity – shown in the project design, model and logo.
- Teamwork – shown throughout all stages of the project.
- Pitch Quality – presentation skills, enthusiasm, clarity and connection with audience.
