Dear Parents/Carers,
As explained in my letter dated 20th January 2023, the National Education Union (NEU), in accordance with the provisions of the Trade Union and Labour Relations Act 1992, are calling upon their members to strike. The proposed industrial action will take place on Wednesday 1st and Tuesday 28th February, and Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th March 2023.
To determine if there will be the need for a full or partial closure on some or all of these days, we have undertaken a Risk Assessment and I am writing to confirm our arrangements for Wednesday 1st February 2023.
The Academy will be open to Vulnerable Groups, Year 11, 12 and 13 only on 1st February 2023. Students in Year 7,8,9 and 10 should not come to school on that day.
If you are classed as a critical worker, and despite best efforts are set to experience childcare issues on 1st February 2023, please contact the school reception to see if any extraordinary provision can be provided.
We appreciate that industrial action is disruptive, and you may need to change your plans or working arrangements, whilst this action is ongoing. We will, of course, continue to monitor the arrangements in place and make modifications to improve support for students, wherever possible. However, ensuring the health and safety of our students must take priority.
Students who are eligible for free school meals will be provided with a voucher via the WONDE system to cover lunch costs on that day. Further details about this will be provided to relevant families.
As previously mentioned, we will treat the strikes as individual instances and will, therefore, make a decision and inform parents no later than one week prior to each of the proposed strike dates.
Consequently, we will be communicating the implications of the next proposed strike date of Tuesday 28th February 2023, by Tuesday 21st February 2023.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
Yours faithfully
Mr M Bedford
