Dear Parents/Carers
I am writing to inform you of some proposed changes to the times of our school day from September 2023. This is in line with the Government’s White Paper of March 2022 and DfE’s “Minimum expectation on length of the school week” information note, which state that schools should be open a minimum of 32.5 hours per week.
To ensure that we comply with this expectation, we are proposing to extend the school day by 10 minutes. This change will result in students starting at 8.35am and finishing at 3.05pm.
The current and proposed times are shown below:
Proposed new school day from September 2023 | |
Start time | 8.35am |
Finish time | 3.05pm |
Current school day | |
Start time | 8.40am |
Finish time | 3.00pm |
The changes to the structure and timings of the school day will be minimal with students continuing to receive five lesson per day. Morning registration will be extended by 10 minutes to enable tutors to spend more time preparing students for the school day. This time will also be used to support and develop students in a variety of different areas such as literacy and careers education.
I appreciate that these changes may affect you in terms of childcare or working arrangements. For this reason, before making these changes to our school day in September 2023, I would like to hear any feedback you have in relation to these changes.
Feedback on the proposals can be sent to consultation@workingtonacademy.org. Please ensure that you send your feedback to us by Friday 3rd March 2023.
Yours faithfully,
Mark Bedford
Head of School
