Dear Parents/Carers,
The National Education Union (NEU), in accordance with the provisions of the Trade Union and Labour Relations Act 1992, are calling upon their members to strike. The proposed industrial action will take place on Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May 2023.
To determine if there will be the need for a full or partial closure on some or all of these days, we have undertaken a Risk Assessment and I am writing to confirm our arrangements for Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May 2023.
Workington Academy will be open to Years 11, 12 and 13 only on Thursday 27th April and Tuesday, 2nd May 2023. It is imperative that all students in those Year Groups attend to maximise their learning at such a crucial time. Students in Year 7,8,9 and 10 should not come to school on that day; work shall be set online. All online work will be set on EdulinkOne, parents and carers who are unable to access this platform should contact the school reception for support.
If you are classed as a critical worker, and despite best efforts you are set to experience childcare issues on Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May 2023, please contact the school reception to see if any extraordinary provision can be provided.
We appreciate that industrial action is disruptive, and you may need to change your plans or working arrangements, whilst this action is ongoing. We will, of course, continue to monitor the arrangements in place and make modifications to improve support for students, wherever possible. However, ensuring the health and safety of our students must take priority.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
Mark Bedford
Head of School
