Dear Parents/Carers
The National Education Union (NEU), in accordance with the provisions of the Trade Union and Labour Relations Act 1992, are calling upon their members to strike. The proposed industrial action will take place on Wednesday 5th and Friday 7th July 2023.
To determine if there will be the need for a full or partial closure on some or all of these days, we have undertaken a Risk Assessment and I am writing to confirm our arrangements for Wednesday 5th and Friday 7th July 2023.
Workington Academy will be open to Vulnerable Groups and Year 12 only on Wednesday 5th and Friday 7th July 2023. Students from Year 7,8 and 9 are not to come into school on these 2 days.
For students who are not in school work will be set online. This will be available from Tuesday 4th July to allow parents and carers to support with the completion of these tasks.
All online work will be set on EdulinkOne, parents and carers who are unable to access this platform should contact the school reception for support.
If you are classed as a critical worker, and despite best efforts you are set to experience childcare issues on Wednesday 5th and Friday 7th July 2023, please contact the school reception to see if any extraordinary provision can be provided.
We appreciate that industrial action is disruptive, and you may need to change your plans or working arrangements, whilst this action is ongoing. We will, of course, continue to monitor the arrangements in place and make modifications to improve support for students, wherever possible. However, ensuring the health and safety of our students must take priority.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
Yours faithfully,
Mark Bedford
Head of School
