Dear Parents/Carers
It is with great sadness that I must inform you of the death of a well respected and much loved colleague David Foley. Mr Foley taught A Level English Language and Literature at Workington Academy for eight years, joining the Academy when it opened in 2015.
David was an outstanding teacher, he delivered lessons to the highest standard and fostered a love of his subject amongst all his students. As a result of his excellent teaching his students always achieved exceptionally well, enabling them to go on to higher education of their choice. Many of his students went on to study English at university because of his inspiring teaching.
Students taught by David were informed personally of his passing and, understandably, many of them may need some support during this difficult time. If you, as a family, need any advice regarding this, please contact the school directly.
David was a caring and proud family man, he leaves a wife, two children and a much loved grandson. Our thoughts are with his family.
I worked with David for over 20 years. We both moved to Workington Academy from William Howard school in Brampton at the same time in 2015. He was a huge supporter of Workington Academy and was very proud to be part of our school improvement journey. His family informed me that he loved working at our school.
The loss has had a significant impact on the staff and students that worked closely with David. When I have the details regarding his funeral arrangements, I will share these with you.
Thank you for your continued support.
Yours faithfully
Mr M Bedford
