We are excited to announce Kerry Rourke as the new Chair of the Local Advisory Board (LAB) at Workington Academy. Kerry, a dedicated member of the LAB since 2016, steps into this leadership role following the retirement of Paul Armstrong. Her election by the Trust Board marks the beginning of a promising new chapter for our academy.
Kerry brings to the position a profound passion for Workington Academy and a commendable record of its achievements. She is committed to leading the LAB in collaboration with the Headteacher, staff, and the entire school community to further the academy’s improvement plan. Kerry’s vision focuses on empowering every student at Workington Academy to “be the best they can be,” reflecting our collective commitment to excellence in education.
The Local Advisory Board is instrumental in shaping the success of Workington Academy, with responsibilities that span several key areas:
- Ethos and Culture: In partnership with the Headteacher, the LAB sets the school’s ethos, embodying our values and influencing the community’s perception of the academy.
- Finance: The LAB ensures prudent management of the school’s budget, overseeing expenditures to guarantee that resources are allocated effectively in support of student education.
- Student Exclusions: A Discipline Committee within the LAB reviews student exclusions, ensuring processes are fair and supportive of all students.
- Improvement: Collaboratively, the LAB and the Headteacher devise and implement a strategic improvement plan that addresses vital areas such as safeguarding, curriculum, teaching and learning, as well as behavior and attendance.
- Monitoring Visits: Regular visits to the academy by LAB members help monitor day-to-day operations, providing support and identifying opportunities for improvement.
Kerry Rourke is looking forward to meeting with parents, carers, staff, and the wider school community, aiming to foster strong partnerships that will propel Workington Academy toward delivering a first-class education for our students.
We also extend an invitation to those interested in contributing to our school’s journey of growth and achievement by joining the LAB. Your unique skills and perspectives are invaluable to us.
