Workington Academy is delighted to announce that our student podcast, Behind the Algorithm, has been shortlisted for a national award at the Shine 2026 School Media Awards.
The Shine School Media Awards celebrate the creativity, ambition and talent of young people involved in school media projects across the country. Being shortlisted is a fantastic achievement and recognises the hard work, teamwork and commitment shown by our students in producing their podcast.
As part of this exciting recognition, representatives from Workington Academy have been invited to attend the Shine 2026 Awards Day on Monday 29 June 2026 at Stationers’ Hall in London.
During the day, students will have the opportunity to take part in industry-related workshops, speak with sponsors and learn more about career opportunities in publishing and media. The event will also include the Awards Winners Lunch, followed by the official awards ceremony in the Main Hall.
Behind the Algorithm has given students the chance to develop important skills in media production, planning, presenting, discussion, editing and communication. The shortlist announcement is a proud moment for the school and a brilliant example of students embracing opportunities beyond the classroom.
We are incredibly proud of everyone involved in the podcast and wish them the very best of luck at the awards ceremony.
At Workington Academy, we encourage our students to be creative, ambitious and confident in sharing their ideas. This national recognition is a wonderful example of our students living out our motto, Be the best you can be!
