Workington Academy students and staff are delighted with an excellent set of A-Level results. Students have been collecting their results since 8am this morning. Among those students celebrating were Amie McClintock who achieved A grades in maths, physics and chemistry. She intends to study Physics and Astronomy at Durham University. Luke McDougall from Workington achieved an A* in maths, A grades in both business studies and economics and a B in physics. He is planning to study economics at Warwick University. Amy Snodden was pleased with her results – she got an A in biology and B grades in business and geography. Leah Leslie achieved a Distinction* in health and social Care, alongside C grades in biology and maths. She is going to University of Cumbria to study nursing.
There were some excellent results in the vocational Childrens’ Learning, Play and Development course. Cynthia Perez-Arias achieved the top grade of a triple Distinction*. She is planning to study Primary Education with QTS at University of Cumbria. Dana Hawkins achieved two Distinction* and a Distinction and is planning to study psychology at the University of Cumbria.
Headteacher Des Bird said “This group of students have worked exceptionally hard and have been rewarded with some excellent results in both academic and vocational courses. These successes are a testament to the hard work of the students and teaching staff at Workington Academy. This year has seen a record percentage of students from Workington Academy applying to prestigious Russell Group universities, including Leeds, Sheffield and Edinburgh as well as a significant number securing highly sought-after apprenticeships. I would like to congratulate our students on their well-deserved successes”
