During half term, Mr Bird and the Year 8 team were thrilled to receive a message from Mr Murray, a coach at Workington Boys and Girls Club. He got in touch to sing the praises of one of our exceptional Year 8 students, Alfie. Alfie has been coached by Mr Murray for two years, and he is a “brilliant, well mannered young man”. At such a young age, Alfie shows determination and outstanding leadership skills. He is a “role-model to other boxers, both younger and older”.
Alfie, alongside another young boxer from the club, has participated in a team event to run 56 miles in aid of Cancer Research UK. To date, they have raised over £200. Although he’s completed the challenge, Alfie is continuing to run this week. Donations can be made on the group’s Just Giving page: http://www.justgiving.com/alanmurray2011?utm_id=121
Workington Academy staff and students are incredibly proud of Alfie, and the impact that he is having on our local community. We know he’s wonderful in school, and it was heart-warming to hear about his benevolent efforts outside of school. Well done Alfie, for being one of our Year 8 Superstars.
We’d love to hear about the accomplishments of our students. If you know of someone worthy of a student spotlight, please send details to Mrs Williamson at alwilliamson@workingtoacademy.org
