It is with great pride that we announce the triumphant victory of Workington Academy’s Year 8 rugby team in the Cumbria Schools Rugby League Competition, which was held at Derwent Park yesterday.
This was an excellent opportunity for all students involved, as the hospitality provided by the staff at Workington Town Rugby League Football Club gave them a very professional game experience that they will never forget.
The boys showed amazing team effort and dug deep in what was a very evenly matched first half of rugby against a very physical St. Benedicts side. In the second half, the boys gave a very clinical display of rugby and came away winning 22-4. Player of the Match, was awarded to Kai. The highlight of the game came from McCourley, who fended off two tacklers before running the full length of the pitch and scoring under the posts.
A fantastic effort by all the players. Thank you to all parents who came along to support. Well done, Year 8! We are very proud of you.
