Students at Workington Academy successfully completed a 24-hour Danceathon to raise money for the school. The Workington Academy Performing Arts department is fundraising so that they can improve the facilities within the performance space. The event started on Friday 20th October at 7pm and finished on Saturday 21st October at 7pm. The students took part in a series of dance workshops over the 24-hour period, learning a series of dances along the way. They ended with a dance showcase to family, friends and staff at 6pm on Saturday evening.
The event was a huge success, thanks to Miss Houghton who organised the event and was in attendance for the whole 24 hours. Several other staff members attended throughout to support the event and keep morale high!
Miss Houghton said, “It was inspiring to see the students over the 24 hours as they showed resilience and determination to participate in the Danceathon. I know that they are dedicated to all of the Performing Arts enrichment clubs that we offer at Workington Academy, and I will continue to improve the facilities we have for those students to give them the best opportunities and experiences that I can. I hope they will remember this event for years to come.”
So far, over £2,700 has been raised, which will go towards lighting and staging in Workington Academy’s main hall, to enhance pupil experience and elevate the quality of internal performances. Alongside this, they continue to raise funds for costumes, props and transport for upcoming performances and projects.
