Dear Parents/Guardians
I am writing to inform you of updates to our first aid provision at Workington Academy, which will take effect from Monday 3rd March. These changes are designed to ensure that we continue to provide efficient and effective first aid support to students in the event of accidents or injuries.
First aid is intended for accidents and injuries, and we are committed to ensuring that trained staff can respond promptly when needed. To support this, the first aid room will no longer be open. Instead, first aiders will be accessible via our school lesson support system, allowing them to respond swiftly to situations that require medical attention. This approach ensures that students receive the right support in a timely manner.
Additionally, pain relief will no longer be administered in school. Our first aid team’s priority is responding to injuries and accidents, and we have found that the provision of paracetamol is increasingly taking staff away from these essential duties. If your child appears to require pain relief, please ensure that this is administered at home. We also advise that all students bring a bottle of water with them each day to ensure they have access to a drink throughout the day.
Please be assured that any prescribed medication will continue to be administered in school once the appropriate paperwork has been completed. If your child requires prescribed medication during the school day, please contact their year group to arrange this.
These changes will be communicated to students, and we appreciate your support in reinforcing them at home. Our priority is always the well-being and safety of our students, and these updates will allow us to provide the best possible first aid response when it is genuinely needed.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Yours sincerely
Katie Kinrade
