West Coast Sixth Form had the pleasure of welcoming into school Jessica Woolaghan Partnership and Fundraising Co-ordinator for Hospice at Home West Cumbria.
Jessica attended to talk to our fabulous students who were involved in the ‘Grow your £30 challenge’. The students were set a task of taking £30 and using it to raise as much money as possible for the cause. The students who were split into 2 teams used their initiative and worked on raising money targeting separate groups of people, so they weren’t competing for money. The students were responsible for coming up with ideas to raise funds, purchasing resources, advertising and selling. They showed excellent levels of responsibility and resilience with challenges they faced. Initiatives undertaken by Brooke, Hannah and Neive included a decorated egg competition, staff coffee & cake service and a raffle held between friends’ family and staff at the school raising a fantastic £635.31p. Our second group had the highest sales rate raising £246.03 from the sale of 20p ice pops at lunch time during the warmer weeks.
In total the groups raised a fantastic £881.34p for the Charity, Jessica gave a heartfelt thanks to the students for their hard work and explained to them how their money would be utilised to support people in our local community during some of the hardest times of their lives.
We are incredibly proud of our students and how hard they worked in the challenge; they have shown some excellent skill sets used in project management including the use of financial management tools and marketing.
