Workington Academy enjoyed a fantastic day of celebration following England’s thrilling Round of 16 victory over Mexico.
The whole school came together for a fun-filled day of football-themed activities, creating a brilliant atmosphere of excitement, pride and school spirit.
Students proudly showed their support by wearing their favourite football kits, while many also had their faces painted with the St George’s flag. During tutor time, pupils relived the excitement of England’s memorable win by watching match highlights, which sparked plenty of discussion about the team’s fantastic performance.
The celebrations also included an extra-special breakfast to kick-start the day before students took on one of the biggest challenges of the event: a penalty shoot-out against Mr Simpson. With some outstanding saves on display, it is safe to say Jordan Pickford has nothing to worry about, although Mr Simpson certainly gave him a run for his money!
It was wonderful to see so many smiles, plenty of teamwork and a real sense of community as the school celebrated together.
Thank you to everyone who helped organise the day and to all our students for making it such a memorable occasion.
Come on England!
