Workington Academy Radio recently hosted a full day of live broadcasts, and the results were nothing short of outstanding. Throughout the day, our radio students took to the airwaves with confidence and professionalism, delivering engaging shows that reflected their hard work, preparation, and growing media skills.
Students worked collaboratively in the studio, managing live links, presenting, handling requests, and keeping broadcasts running smoothly. Their ability to operate in a live environment demonstrated not only technical competence, but also strong communication, teamwork, and resilience under pressure.
The day also saw fantastic engagement from across the academy, with staff and students sending in shout outs and song requests. This interaction helped create a real sense of community around the broadcasts, and while it wasn’t possible to play every request, the enthusiasm and support were greatly appreciated.
We were delighted to welcome Matthew Haywood, who spent the day with us in the studio. His time, encouragement, and insight added real value to the experience and helped make the day even more memorable for our students.
Events like this highlight the importance of creative opportunities within school and show what young people can achieve when given responsibility and trust. The live broadcasts were a genuine highlight of the school year so far, and we are incredibly proud of everyone involved.
