Dear Parents and Carers,
As we move through the final and most important stage of your child’s time at Workington Academy, we would like to outline the comprehensive package of exam support that is being put in place to help all Year 11 students prepare effectively and achieve their very best outcomes. We recognise that this period can be demanding for both students and families, and our aim is to ensure that every student feels supported, confident and well prepared as they approach their GCSE and vocational examinations.
The support currently in place includes:
Weekend Tutoring (Open to All Students)
Weekend revision and tutoring sessions are available to all Year 11 students. Letters outlining these sessions have already been issued directly to students, and we strongly encourage attendance where possible.
Mid-week Targeted Intervention Sessions
Some subjects are running targeted intervention sessions during the week for identified students who would benefit from additional support (letters will be given to students).
Tuesday and Friday Morning English and Maths Intervention
All students take part in focused English and Maths intervention sessions during tutor time on Tuesday and Friday mornings.
100 Days Revision Programme https://www.workingtonacademy.org/parents/student-support-curriculum/ (Password – workington)
Students are following a structured 100 Day Revision programme to help them plan, organise and sustain their revision over time.
English and Maths in Vocational Lessons
In vocational subjects where course content has been completed, lesson time is being used to reinforce English and Maths skills to further support exam success.
Teaching Revision Techniques During Tutor Time
Tutor time is also being used to explicitly teach effective revision strategies, helping students understand how to revise as well as what to revise.
SLT Progress Evenings
Members of the Senior Leadership Team are holding progress evenings with targeted students to review performance, address barriers and agree clear next steps.
Year 11 Squads
Year 11 Squads have been established to provide an additional layer of pastoral and academic support, ensuring students are closely monitored and encouraged throughout the exam period.
We kindly ask for your continued support at home by encouraging regular attendance, good organisation, and positive revision habits. Working together, we are confident that these measures will help every student approach their examinations with confidence and resilience.
If you have any questions about the support outlined above, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Yours faithfully
Mr Holliday and Year 11 Year Group Team
