Year 11 Study After Half Term Update

26th May 2026

Dear Parent/carer

We know from the exams this year, and in previous years, the huge positive impact that subject specific teaching just before the exams can have on student outcomes.

Students have received this timetable for after half term which continues to support students with this teaching.

From w/c 1 June students are expected in school full time.

From w/c 8 June students are expected in school full time until Wednesday P4. After this they are mainly in school. However, we recognise that the exam period is very intense for students, so during this week there is some time when they are expected to study at home. During this home study time, if students prefer to study in school, this can be accommodated.

From w/c 15 June students should only be in school for Exams, Revision Sessions, and the Year 11 Leaver Assembly on Monday.

We will also be issuing digital education records to Year 11 pupils this summer second half term.

Education records are part of a new service from the Department for Education (DfE) to provide pupils with their education information and help them share this information as part of their post-16 journey.

Education records contain unique education information for each pupil, including:

  • their name, address and date of birth
  • the schools they have attended
  • their qualifications (after results are released)
  • any support needs

Education records will be issued on the DfE education record app. Pupils must download the app onto their phones from the Apple or Google App Stores. The rest of the issuing process will take place in school. Please download this over the half term break. The Apple version of the app requires iOS version 15 or newer and the Android version requires 8.1 or newer.

Students will be issued with access to the App during tutor periods after the half term break. During these tutor period students will be permitted to access their mobile devices to complete the registration process.

After the issuing process, pupils will have their education information on their phones. They can then use the app to share this information digitally with sixth forms or colleges when they enrol.

Please contact us if you have any questions.

Finally, as Year 11 move through this important final stage of their journey at Workington Academy, revision plays an important role in supporting success. We will continue to provide a wide range of support, including the 100 Days Revision programme, which provides students with structured guidance and manageable tasks to help them prepare effectively. Students are encouraged to continue to use the regularly developed and practised range of revision techniques, including retrieval practice, flashcards, self-quizzing, practice questions, etc., helping them identify strategies that work best for them.

Students are also encouraged to avoid overloading themselves over this half term and instead focus on regular, manageable revision sessions. Short, focused periods of revision with regular breaks are proving more effective in maintaining motivation, concentration and wellbeing. Resources are on our website and more paper based revision tasks and tasks via Edulink will be set to complete. Every small effort is helping to build confidence and support students in achieving outcomes they can be proud of.

Thank you for your continued support.
