Cumbria Education Trust is delighted to announce the appointment of a new headteacher for Workington Academy. Des Bird was recently appointed; he is currently Headteacher at Richard Rose Morton Academy in Carlisle.
The position was advertised in a national multi-media campaign and attracted a wide field of high calibre applications. A short-list of excellent candidates was then put through an intensive two-day interview and assessment programme.
Speaking about Des’s appointment, CEO of Cumbria Education Trust, Lorrayne Hughes said:
“We were very pleased to attract such a strong field of high calibre applicants and also to have secured such a great headteacher. As a member of the education community, Des is well known and highly respected. We have every confidence in his ability to build upon the firm foundations that we have established at Workington Academy and to lead the academy to further future success.
“On behalf of the Trust, I would also like to thank Colette Macklin for all of her hard work, dedication and enthusiasm in stepping into the role of interim Headteacher, Colette has been a valuable contributor to the journey of Workington Academy.
