On two consecutive Wednesday evenings in October 017, we celebrated the successes of our current Year 8 and 9 students for their achievements over their last academic year at Workington Academy as Year 7 and Year 8 students respectively throughout 2016-17.
Both evenings were wonderful occasions, taking place in Workington Academy’s new performance hall, packed by students and their on-looking family members.
The ceremonies were lead by Nicola Tweddle – Director of Learning at Workington Academy and opened with musical performances from students and a montage of achievements and highlights from the previous academic year.
The evenings saw students being recognised for their achievements in a wide variety of areas accomplished within the last academic year, receiving certificates, medals, trophies and prizes not only for academic excellence but for a range of successes including; outstanding effort and diligence, home-learning, exceptional responsibility for learning, attendance, sporting, music and art achievements, extra-curricular contributions, vivo points, house honours, form tutor awards and accolades in recognition of our Workington Academy values and many more.
The ceremonies were very much as they should be – centred around and lead by our students and included student performances throughout the evenings – including a solo singing performance from Year 9 student Sophie and a piano piece played by Year 9 student Lucy Wilson, who had played the same piece at Workington Academy’s Official Opening Ceremony – attended by the Duchess of Gloucester.
The ceremonies culminated in the awarding of the Outstanding Boy and Girl Awards, which this year were presented to Liam Bennett and Kayleigh Robinson in Year 7 and Logan Hailes and Chloe Bell in Year 8, in recognition for their excellent contributions to all aspects of Workington Academy life and achievements both in and out of the classroom.
Finally, the prestigious Cumbria Education Trust Awards, which can be awarded to a student in any of Cumbria Education Trust’s six schools, were this year awarded to a Workington Academy students in both Year 7 and Year 8. In Year 7 this award went to John Little, for his exceptional display of the Workington Academy core values – Respect, Responsibility and Resilience and in Year 8 this award went to Lucy Wilson, for her Outstanding Contribution to Workington Academy over the previous academic year.
Well done to all of our Workington Academy Award Winners from our classes of Year 7 and Year 8 – 2016-2017.
