Workington Academy students receive their 2024 GCSE results.
Headteacher Mark Bedford said:
“Cumbrian schools are proud to serve our children, their families and the communities they come from. Results this year demonstrate yet again the resilience of Cumbrian youngsters and their dedication to their studies. The achievements of the students are all the more special for the challenges many families have faced due to the cost of living crisis, and we congratulate them all on the manner in which they have conducted themselves in what continues to be extraordinary times.”

We are incredibly proud of the students who have achieved the results required to move on to sixth form, college or apprenticeships and we wish them well for the future. More so than ever, students have been faced with adversity, the challenge GCSE study is never easy, but the skills and strategies our young people have developed during their time at the Academy will ensure that the continue to be successful and resilient throughout their life.

Pleasing results were achieved by many including:
Connor Fitzwilliam who achieved a grade 9 in Biology, Chemistry, Computing and Maths. He gained a grade 8 in Physics and a grade 7 in German. He also achieved a grade 6 in English Language and Geography.
Sophie Adams achieved a grade 9 in Geography and grade 8 in Biology, Chemistry, English Literature, French, Maths and Physics. She also gained a grade a grade 7 in English Language alongside a Distinction in Music.
Caitlin Corkhill achieved a grade 9 in Art, English Literature, History and Double Science. She also gained a grade 7 in English Language and Maths and a grade 5 in German.
Kyle Rafferty achieved a grade 8 in Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Maths, Physics and Religious Education. He also gained a grade 7 in English Literature, a grade 6 in German and a grade 5 in English Language.
The academy also celebrates students who have made exceptional progress in their time at Workington Academy. Progress is measured by calculating how well students have performed in their GCSEs, compared to the SATs results students got in Year 6.
